Pui-shan CHEUNG is prize winner of many international and national composition competitions. She is currently director of the Asian Young Musicians' Connection (Hong Kong) and the Hong Kong CrossRoads Ensemble.

She has also recently been invited as the international judge of the International Alliance of Women in Music (IAWM), Search for New Music Composition Competition, guest composer of the Estonia V ABIMF Music Academy (2018), Delian Academy for New Music in Greece (2019)and international jury at the Composium 2018 (DingYi Music Organisation) in Singapore. Her recent works included her chamber opera, the "Lotus Script", Traditional Chinese Shadow Multimedia work, "The Dragon VII" , and her cello orchestra work, "The Taste of Old Hong Kong-Kai Tak Airport".

Described as "beautiful sounds with abrupt intrusions of jagged explosive ideas." (Peninsula Review). Her music has been performed by Gothenburg Opera Symphony Orchestra, Estonia National Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Shen Zhen Symphony Orchestra, UMKC Symphony Orchestra, HKAPA Academy Orchestra, as well as Stockholm Saxophone Quartet (Sweden), Darmstadt Trio (Germany), Niew Ensemble (Amsterdam), Reconcil Ensemble (Vienna), Saxcess Saxophone Quartet (New Zealand), TIMF (Korea), Pacific Sounding Ensemble (Japan), Eighth Black-bird, Empyrean Ensemble (San Francisco), Liberace Woodwind Quintet (Kansas City), Wuji Chinese Plucked-string Music Ensemble (H.K.) and etc.

Pui-shan has received number of awards and prizes, including the first prize at the Italy Percussion Society Composition Competition, the first prize in the II International Lepo Sumera Composition Contest in Tallinn, Estonia, third prize in the International Music Prize Luxembourg in Luxembourg, Libby Larsen Prize in the International Alliance for Women in Music Search for New Music by Women Composers Composition Contest, special prize in the IBLA World Competition in Italy, first prize in the University of Missouri, Kansas City (UMKC), Orchestral Composition Competition, first prize in the UMKC Chamber Music Composition Competition and two regional prizes in the SCI/ASCAP Composition Commission Program as well as the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong Composition Scholarship for Overseas Studies, and the Lee hyson Fellowship from the Asian Cultural Council for her graduate studies in United States.  She has held residency at the Atlantic Centre for the Arts and Wuji Chinese-plucked Music Ensemble.

She also served as adjudicator in the National PTA Reflections Composition Competition in Kansas City, Missouri, Arnold Schoenberg Project in Beijing Modern Music Festival, The International Rostrum of Composers in Lisbon, Portugal, Spotlight on Young Musicians Platform, sponsored by the Hong Kong Art Development Council at HKAPA and the Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd.) Artistic Excellence Award, Music Composition Contest.

Born in Hong Kong, pui-shan received her degrees from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (B.M. (hons), University of California, San Diego (M.A.) and University of Missouri, Kansas City (DMA). Her major teachers included the Grawemeyer awards winner Chinary Ung, Chen Yi, Zhou Long, James Mobberley, Law Wing Fai and electronic music with Clarence Mak.

She has served as Assistant Professor at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, co-director for the Hong Kong Composers Guild, currently serve as associate professor at HKAPA and director at the Asian Young Musicians Connection and Hong Kong CrossRoads Ensemble.

Her music and recording has been published by VDM-Verlag (Germany), LGNM (Luxembourg), Capstone (U.S.A.), Honey Rock (U.S.A.), Music and Performing Arts International Festival Journal (Thailand) and HKAPA Records.

Dr. Cheung has done extensive research in Chinese traditional music and Chinese Philosophy. Her music is sensitive and effective, and contains with full of Chinese Spirit and inspirations.
